Beauty Tips - DR. PERRICONE’S ANTI-AGING SKINCARE INGREDIENTS DON’T HAVE TO BE EXPENSIVE
I am a huge fan of Dr. Nicholas Perricone. I have always found his books to be on the cutting edge of the health and beauty connection and I’ve incorporated his regime into my life with tremendous results.
Dr. Perricone bases his program on an “inside out approach”, meaning that following an anti-inflammatory diet (fish, no refined sugar, fruits, veggies, etc) will keep you healthy and fight premature aging at a cellular level, which in turn creates a radiant, youthful complexion.
In addition to his bestselling books, Dr. Perricone markets a line of skincare products the majority of that are based on just a handful of powerful ingredients: Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA), Retinol, Vitamin C Ester, Hyaluronic Acid and DMAE.
Here’s a rundown of what these do for your skinny skin skin:
- Alpha Lipoic Acid ( ALA ): Increases circulation which tightens pores and produces a more even complexion
- Retinol: Encourages cell turnover which generates radiant, glowing skin while decreasing the appearance of surface imperfections. Also decreases sebum the yucky white stuff that clogs your pores and creates blemishes.
- Vitamin C Ester: Vitamin C fused with a fatty acid using an ester bond creates a fat-soluble, non-irritating compound superior to traditional Vitamin C at penetrating and renewing skin.
- Hyaluronic Acid (HA): A naturally occurring, moisture-retaining component in skin, HA decreases as we age. Topical HA re-hydrates, restores elasticity and a younger appearance by treating the effects of UV rays, wind and other factors associated with premature aging.
- DMAE: An important nutrient with significant anti-aging properties. DMAE (dimethyl aminoehtanol) is found in human nerve tissue but supplementation is recommended for maintaining optimum levels as we age. Eating fish, taking DMAE capsules and applying topical DMAE are all recommended by Dr. Perricone.
Make no mistake, the Perricone products are fantastic. I highly recommend them – if you have unlimited funds at your disposal. The average Perricone skincare product is $95 for 2oz and many are $120.00 for 2oz.
The real doozie is the Neuropeptide Eye Contour - a mere .5oz is $195.00. So the kids won’t eat this month – but mommy sure will be lookin’ FINE!
Seriously, these preposterous price tags are completely unrealistic for most of us to use for an extended period of time. And you WILL want to keep using them because they work wonders. I’d literally be having a panic attack as the bottom of the tiny jar began to surface from beneath the cream. I was using increasingly microscopic morsels on my face trying to strrrrreeeeeetcch that stuff just a few more days.
Then I got wise!
Switch To Source Naturals:
Source Naturals Skin Eternal Serum and Cream contain remarkably similar ingredients to those found in the Perricone skincare line and I can tell you that my skin is still as radiant as it was when I was scraping my pennies together and using Perricone products.
Be sure to try:
- Skin Eternal Hyaluronic Acid Serum: Features - Hyaluronic Acid in a serum formula that is more easily absorbed by the skin than cream. Other ingredients are: Vitamin C Ester, DMAE, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Vitamins A, E, D3 ,Coenzyme Q10, and Biotin.
- Skin Eternal Cream: Features - Alpha Lipoic Acid, DMAE, Vitamin C Ester, Coenzyme Q10, Hyaluronic Acid and Green Tea Extract.
These products smell lovely and most importantly you will see results – FAST. Within a few days beautiful, glowing skin emerges. It is remarkable how well this combination of ingredients works. Well, not really considering Dr. Perricone developed the idea of using them together!
Try It:
Morning: use the Skin Eternal Cream on face and neck before putting on make-up or sunscreen
Evening: A few drops of the Serum and then the Cream to replenish, soften and brighten skin.
The Price Is So Right!
- Skin Eternal Hyaluronic Acid Serum: $15.29(1.7 fl oz)
- Skin Eternal Cream : $22.99 (4 oz)
I should tell you that Dr. Perricone’s products (such as his Vitamin C Ester formulation) have their own patent. Not sure why this matters since my skin looks just as happy using Skin Eternal, but in case your skin is interested in patents and stuff like that I thought I’d let you know.
You can also go to www.nvperriconemd.com and check out items like Advanced Firming Acivator $120 (2oz) and Alpha Lipoic Acid Evening Facial Emollient $90 (2oz) Be sure to click on “ingredients” - it is fun to compare.
Of course, the percentage of active ingredients are not divulged so there is no way of knowing if there is in fact a difference in the concentrations of Source Naturals and Perricone skincare. I sincerely hope the Perricone stuff is more concentrated given that you can feed a family for a week on what one of the vials costs. All I know for certain is my skin looks and feels the same using the Source Naturals formulations.
So go splurge on something fabulous - new shoes, dinner out, whatever you want is totally fine – just think about how many millions you’ve saved by switching to Source Naturals Skin Eternal! How’s that for some really great rationalization?!
ps: Find Source Naturals Skin Eternal products at Whole Foods Market or health food stores that carry skin care products or order from www.vitacost.com.
Soak up the Serum!

[…] Amanda Herrington from Health Sundae advises us to watch our pocketbook and not spend more than we need to on beauty products in . It is a lengthy comparison of Dr. Perricone’s Healthcare Products versus a cheaper, though equally effective, line of Source Naturals. She seemed rather knowledgeable on ingredients in skin creams and potions so I left a comment begging her advice on pregnancy mask and acne. I’ll let you know if she provides any enlightenment on the issue. But, obviously Thrifty Mommy would be so very proud of her frugality. […]
